Thailand's weekly cabinet meeting agreed on Tuesday that the Internal Security Act (ISA) will be imposed in capital Bangkok from Oct. 15 to 25 to ensure peace and order amid the mass anti-government rallies.

The ISA law will be imposed in Dusit district in the center of Bangkok, Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said after the cabinet meeting.

The United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) group or the red-shirted people plan to stage the mass rallies at the Royal Plaza inside Dusit district. The UDD group has announced they will re-gather on Oct. 17 and Oct. 24 after their anti-government rally last Sunday.

On the coming Saturday, the UDD protestors will demand a progress report concerning a royal pardon sought by the UDD group for ousted former Premier Thaksin Shinawatra. On August 17, the red-shirted people submitted the appeal to a representative of the Office of His Majesty's Principal Private Secretary, which was later forwarded to the government for further consideration. On Oct. 24, the UDD protestors will rally to launch an out-of-parliament debate of a no-confidence motion in the coalition government.
