OK, here’s my thing. It really gets on my nerves when Thai people try to tell me my username (pomlaksowthai) isn’t spelled correctly. It is written phonically and is spelled exactly as it sounds to me. POM-LAK-SOW-THAI. But most Thai people say that is not right and that it is POM-RAK-SAO-THAI. This really bothers me!!

First of all, English is my language. So I know what letters make what sounds. Yes, I get when Thai’s speak proper Thai that they use the rolling “R” and that has somewhat of an “R” sound. But everyday Thai’s talk lazy and uses an “L” sound instead of the rolling “R”. So, therefore it’s LAK not RAK.

Ok, now lets move on to “SOW” it could be written as “SAO” but to me it sound to much like “COW” so I changed the “C” to ”S” I could let you have that one, maybe.

To sum it up, let us whose first language is English write Thai words in English how we hear them and not how you think they should be written. Cause you know if you try and tell a Thai how to write any English word in Thai, they would get pissed and more than likely say ”Thai is my language, not yours”.
